[News] Shaping Auckland’s Smart Urban Future: Unilumin LED Displays Feature in Landmark City Rail Link

This month, Auckland’s long-awaited City Rail Link (CRL)—New Zealand’s largest-ever transport infrastructure project—has officially opened, marking a significant milestone in the country’s public transportation development. Designed to transform urban mobility, the new underground rail network enhances connectivity across Auckland while creating a more efficient, sustainable, and passenger-friendly transit experience.

As part of this landmark project, 170 square meters of Unilumin’s Uslim III MIP 1.9 LED displays have been installed throughout the station, delivering crystal-clear visual information for passengers and contributing to the station’s modern digital environment.

Bringing Transit Information to Life with Uslim III MIP
In busy transportation hubs, display systems must do more than simply show information. They need to present real-time train updates, wayfinding guidance, public announcements, and commercial advertising with equal clarity, while withstanding long operating hours, changing ambient light, heavy passenger traffic, and space-constrained installation conditions. Uslim III MIP is designed to address these challenges with a slim, high-performance, and service-friendly display architecture.

Featuring an ultra-slim die-cast aluminum cabinet, Uslim III enables flexible installation and seamless integration into complex station environments, helping maximize valuable space without compromising structural stability. Its high contrast, vivid color reproduction, and excellent image uniformity ensure that critical passenger information remains easy to read, while advertising and multimedia content retains the visual impact needed to attract attention and enhance commercial value.

Built for 24/7 operation, the display delivers stable performance in high-traffic environments, while front‑access maintenance simplifies routine servicing and helps minimize downtime. Together, these advantages allow transit operators to use a single display for both reliable passenger communication and high-quality digital advertising, improving operational efficiency while creating a more engaging station experience.

MIP Technology: Redefining Fine-Pitch LED Performance
At the core of Uslim III is the combination of MIP technology and Unilumin’s EBL (Enhanced Black Level) 2.0 technology, delivering a significant improvement in both visual performance and display durability. By enhancing black levels and suppressing unwanted surface reflection, it achieves higher contrast, lower moiré, reduced glare, and fewer visible touch marks, ensuring cleaner, more refined images across a wide range of viewing conditions.

Beyond image quality, it also provides strong resistance against impact, moisture, dust, static electricity, and other common environmental challenges. This combination of superior visual performance and comprehensive protection makes Uslim III particularly well suited for high-traffic transportation environments, where displays must maintain excellent image quality while delivering reliable, long-term operation.

Lighting the Way Toward Smarter Cities
The opening of Auckland’s City Rail Link represents more than the launch of a new railway—it reflects the continued evolution of smarter, more connected urban infrastructure.

As cities around the world embrace digital transformation, LED display technology is becoming an essential component of intelligent public spaces, enabling real-time communication, enhancing passenger experiences, and improving operational efficiency.

From transportation hubs to commercial centers, control rooms, and cultural landmarks, Unilumin remains committed to delivering innovative LED display solutions that help build smarter, greener, and more human-centered cities. Through continuous technological innovation, Unilumin is empowering the future of urban living—one display at a time.
