[News] Huawei Launches AI Glasses as Meta Leads the Market; Samsung, Apple Reportedly Eye 2026–2027 Entry

AI glasses are rapidly gaining traction as the next-generation wearable device. According to Chosun Ilbo, Huawei recently unveiled its “Huawei AI Glasses,” powered by a self-developed AI chip. Users can access features such as voice translation and music streaming via touch controls on the frame. The device also supports multimodal capabilities—for example, its built-in camera can capture images of food, allowing AI to analyze nutritional information. The glasses are priced starting at 2,499 yuan.

As Chosun Ilbo indicates, the global AI glasses market is currently dominated by Meta. In China, where Meta’s AI glasses are not officially available, local players such as Alibaba are moving to fill the gap with products like its “Quark” AI glasses. In addition, as noted by Chinese outlet Times Weekly, the so-called “four rising Chinese AR glasses players”—RayNeo, XREAL, Rokid, and INMO—have each launched new products this year. Notably, Times Weekly indicates that XREAL has recently filed for a Hong Kong listing.

However, amid a wave of new product launches, some companies are choosing to slow their pace. According to Times Weekly, citing sources, vivo halted its internally developed AI smart glasses project earlier this year after nearly six months of preparation. Shortly afterward, ByteDance was also reported to have paused the first-generation product line of its Doubao AI glasses.

Apple Eyes Entry into AI Glasses Market
Recently, Apple has also signaled plans to enter the AI glasses market. According to MacRumors, citing Bloomberg, the company is targeting a late 2026 or early 2027 launch for its first pair of smart glasses, marking a move into a new product category. The glasses are expected to feature built-in cameras for capturing photos and videos, along with speakers and microphones to support music playback, phone calls, and notifications delivered via Siri. Apple aims to differentiate its offering through tight integration with the iPhone and premium build quality, the report adds.

Samsung to Debut Smart Glasses, AR Model to Follow
Meanwhile, according to Seoul Economic Daily, Samsung Electronics is expected to unveil its first smart glasses, tentatively called “Galaxy Glasses,” as early as July. The device will be powered by Google’s AI model Gemini and is set to incorporate design elements from global eyewear brand Gentle Monster. The first Galaxy Glasses model, expected to debut in the third quarter, will feature speakers, a microphone, and a high-definition camera, but will not include a display. Seoul Economic Daily adds that Samsung Electronics also plans to introduce a version with a display supporting augmented reality (AR) next year.
